Endowment / Memorials: Endowment and Memorial Gifts Ministry "I will not just live my life, I will invest my life" Helen Keller In 1997, Aldergate United Methodist Church launched an Endowment Ministry designed to steward gifts from members and friend’s estates, including gifts of stock or retirement fund’s Required Minimum Distributions. The Endowment Fund provides a long term foundation for the ministries of Aldersgate UMC. Gifts to an Endowment Fund are protected in perpetuity and only income generated by growth in the Fund is to be used for ministry. The purpose of our Endowment Fund will be to support property needs and mission ministries with proceeds generated after the fund value reaches $100,000. The Endowment Fund is invested with the United Methodist Foundation of New England which monitors socially responsibly investing principles in accordance with the United Methodist Book of Discipline. In addition, Aldersgate’s Scholarship Funds and Memorial Funds are invested similarly. Current Status As of June, 2011, the Endowment fund has received several generous donations from the Ciesluk, Daynard, Leaverton and Schmid Families. Memorial Gifts Gifts to the church in honor of someone’s life (Living or Deceased) are identified as Memorial Gifts. These contributions enable the church to accomplish ministry goals and often fund new equipment or resources for worship or education. Family members are invited to offer suggestions for the Church Council to consider in consultation with the Endowment & Memorials Committee and Trustees.
